Why not give this simple horchata recipe a try. Inspired by the Nigerian horchata – Kunu, this velvety and delicious drink is perfect for all occasions. We can’t promise it will be as good as Gretel & Belle’s horchata, but we think it’s worth a try.
What you’ll need
You’ll find these simple, everyday items around your house. If you don’t have cheesecloth, why not try a linen tea towel.
- Scale
- Blender
- Cheesecloth
- Funnel
Ingredients
- 160g tiger nuts (fresh or dried)
- 40g coconuts
- 30g ginger
- 3 dates
- 10g cinnamon
- 6g cloves
- 8 dashes vanilla extract
- 800ml water
Directions
Step 1
Soak tiger nuts in water for at least 24 hours (fresh) or at least 48 hours (dried).
Step 2
In a blender, add tiger nuts, coconuts, ginger, dates, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla extract and water and blend until a smooth mix is formed.
Step 3
Pour horchata mix into a cheesecloth and strain.
Step 4
Chill horchata until ready to serve. Stir well before serving.
